Bordeaux & Le Verdon France late April 2023 on Sirena
I was intrigued by the idea of an ocean-going ship sailing on the river to Bordeaux. I had also read that people love Bordeaux. Despite not being a wine drinker, I knew I was going to love it. Our itinerary called for up to a 3 hour stop due to changing tides in Le Verdon, France, where the Atlantic meets the Gironde estuary. If you had booked an excursion you could go off the ship. If not, you couldn't. A little before 11 the ship sailed to Bordeaux. When we reached Bordeaux, the ship got a tug assist, turned around, and tied up on the river some time between 3 and 4. Lots of people watched from the shoreline. I guess we were the entertainment for an hour or so that day, as not many ocean cruise ships can make it there. We overnighted on the river and left the next day at 4 to go back out to the Atlantic.
