Docked 7 AM in Fremantle, walked to ferry terminal to take ferry to Rottnest Island. Bikes were being loaded on the ferry. |
We're definitely in the right place for the Rottnest (rat nest) ferry! |
Huge barge passed while waiting to board the ferry to this beautiful island. |
Howard made friends with 2 people who commute M-F to work from Perth while I took pictures. Here's Regatta. |
On the island, we saw Vegemite for the first time. I had no interest in trying it. |
Also saw a quokka for the 1st time. It's a hungry, scavenging marsupial. The island promotes selfies. |
Took the hop on hop off Explorer Bus around the island. Lots of people got off at a beautiful beach. |
From the bus I got my 1st glimpse of Wadjemup lighthouse. |
Jumped off the bus to see Wadjemup. Howard was game for walking up the hill |

Back in town got hot meat pies from Rottnest Bakery while quokkas napped nearby. |
Quokkas are everywhere on Rottnest, but are only found in certain areas of Western Australia from Perth to Albany. |
While walking near the campground I saw this one with a camper. |
Beach sand wasn't the best, but the water was absolutely beautiful. |
Walked to find Bathurst lighthouse half mile from ferry dock. Got a little lost but finally found it. |
It was next to a posh resort with a gate blocking the way. But I got closer by walking around the area & finding a public path. |
Regatta left Fremantle that evening, passing Fremantle's unusually-shaped maritime museum. |

Passed a green mole lighthouse |
And a red mole lighthouse. |
A little less than an hour later we passed Rottnest Island and I took a picture from the ship. |
Next morning we passed Eclipse lighthouse on our way to Albany, Western Australia. |
And Breaksea lighthouse as we approached Albany harbor |
On the shore close to our docking location were the ruins of King Cove lighthouse. |
Took the shuttle into the CBD in the beautiful little city of Albany. |
Everything looked nice. Here's the iSITE tourist info center |
Loved the colors on this storefront building. |
Paid a modest sum of AUD $$ to go on a 3 hour tour on the Busy Blue Bus. |
First we were taken high up on a hill & told to walk, look & report back what we found. Saw this first. |
Scrambled up some rocks & found this. |
 Found this creature too. |
And this. Came back down & were told a legend of long-ago love and adventure. |
Back on the bus, came across this. Had read of it but didn't expect to see it (Cave Point LH in Torndirrup Park). |
Spent an hour in Torndirrup Park at the Natural Bridge & The Gap. Here's The Gap. |

Back on the bus, saw kangaroos in a paddock. First time for quokkas; 1st time for roos! |
We were then taken to a wind farm. I had never visited a wind farm. |
The windmills make a quiet whooshing sound. |
Went down windmill path to the water |
Had my picture taken on the shoreline. |
The path wiggled around the water a bit and back to its start. |
Meanwhile back in Albany, Howard found this sign, and found me a much-needed new mouse (plastic kind) at Coles. (H's pic) |
