Algiers

Spent a day in Algiers. I was excited to go there, and to be in Africa for the first time. Algiers is the capital of Algeria. Berber, Arabic and French are the 3 languages spoken the most. The people at the port were excited to have us visit, and Algiers police provided a police escort to make sure we could navigate through the city and out to the countryside without traffic problems. Howard's back was really painful so he wasn't able to sightsee. But he insisted that I go, so I did. I had paid for an excursion to see the Royal Mausoleum of Tipaza. The excursion turned out to be way more than that - wonderful day out in Algeria.

Then we visited the outdoor Tipaza Archaeological Museum - vast area of ruins.

These women waved to me, and I motioned to my camera to ask if I could take a picture.

It was Friday, which is the weekend for Algerians, and there were lots of people in the park/museum.

In the park our guide sang to us & invited tour members to sing or recite poetry. Someone recited Road Not Taken - perfect!

A group of young men came to sing to us. Not sure if guide invited them, or Viking, or what.
