Pretty sure this is the same Pine Tree Spurthroated Grasshopper (Melanoplus punctulatus) from the other picture. Very nice picture. These are sometimes called grizzled grasshoppers due to their coloration, but Pine Tree Spurthroated is the more widely accepted. They are one of the few grasshoppers in the Northeast to prefer trees to herbaceous plants and are often found on the trunks of conifers, where they blend in rather perfectly.
