Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Archilochus colubris
This was a lucky find in May, a Ruby-throated Hummingbird on her nest. The nest (built by the female) is a compact cup of grasses, plant fibers, spider webs, lined with plant down. The outside is camouflaged with lichens and dead leaves. This was at Lake Redman. Later in the summer I watched a hummingbird at Nixon County Park collect down from open cattails presumably to line her nest.
