Turkey & Black Vultures
Cathartes aura & Coragyps atratus
While out birding for Global Big Day I came upon this group of vultures feeding on a White-tailed Deer carcass.
Lake Redman had been drained so that repairs could be made on a dam downstream.
I don't know if this deer had become hopelessly stuck in the mud and died or if it had been shot illegally and ended up in the middle of the lake.
Interesting to note is that black vultures never were seen in PA when I was a kid.
It has been fun to watch their spread north.
