Spiny-tailed Iguana

Ctenosaur similis

These iguanas can grow to four feet in length, substantially smaller than the Green Iguana which can reach six feet in length. Unfortuantely, iguanas are caught by villagers to be served as a meal and their numbers have decreased to the point where there is concern for their future.
This one would have been an easy catch as it was right next to the road in the village of Crooked Tree.

Nice detail. Ann. We have a Jurassic Park-like story in the Tucson area where a local institution (that will remain unnamed) had a specimen escape and establish a colony. Fortunately, they've been able to eek out a living on the grounds of the institution --- kind of weird to see these this far north in the Sonoran Desert.
