This was a good year for bison calves in Yellowstone.
An estimated 30 million bison once lived on the central plains of North America. In the 1870s and 1880s they were slaughtered until only a few thousand remained. Through conservation efforts there are now several hundred thousand surviving in herds scattered around central and western U.S. and Canada. This is a true horror story as to how destructive humans can be when it comes to our fellow earth inhabitants.
