The Headstone tunnel - is 533 yards long. The eastern approach cutting has near-vertical sides and the has been designated a geological SSSI thanks to its distinctive rock strata. Some rock outcrops have been supported with masonry or brick pillars and any loose material or vegetation have been removed as part of the conversion for pedestrians and cyclists.
