While viewing these images of the Wasatch Front of the Rocky Mountains, note the shore lines of the ancient lakes that at one time covered this entire area. These shore lines appear quite detailed under certain lighting conditions. There are fossils of ancient sea-life that can be found at the different shore levels. When the lake finally drained, it drained north into Idaho, and where the water exited the canyon areas, the receding water left gravel and sand which is surface mined along many of the canyons from Brigham City to Provo, a distance of approximately 100 miles.
