It is called sardine canyon, people think the name needs changed. However the name came from the narrow road, passing was near impossible impossible in the narrow canyon leading into cache valley. Hence the saying packed in like sardines. I have read many early journals of my ancestors. My g g great grandfather received a medal for the first successful dry farm in cache valley. It was in my sterling.

I AM VERY INTERESTED IN THIS AREA AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE OLD ROAD THROUGH SARDINE CANYON AND THE DRY LAKES VALLEY. ANY GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION WOULD BE HELPFUL.

The road through Sardine Canyon was closed nearly 60 years ago. It is impassible and has been for a long time. The road from Brigham City to Logan ascends Box Elder Canyon past Mantua, climbs to Sardine Summit, crosses Dry Lake Valley, and descends through Wellsville Canyon. Sardine Canyon is to the east of Dry Lake Valley. The old road to Sardine Canyon can be seen on the south face of Dry Lake Valley.

I know, the locals call it Sardine Canyon, but it isn't. Most of them came when Thiokol came in the late 1950s and they never did know the history or geograpy of the area.
