Here is Willard Peak with cloud cover. This close-up shows how the snow has come down to the 'bench' which is actually a shore-line left from ancient lakes which covered this whole area years ago. When the lighting is just 'right' one can see three distinct shorelines corresponding to periods where the water did not drain and the lake depth was stable for years at a time. This is not 'theory'...fossils are on all of the shorelines or benches as evidence of sea life forms.
