We had a lovely afternoon at the annual lavender festival at Castle Farm Shoreham - so called because it is very close to Lullingstone Castle. http://www.hopshop.co.uk/index.asp Thanks to Nicky who told me about this wonderful place.
There are different types of lavender grown here - hence the difference in colours.
