Says it all doesn't it ?!
Do you think he started his conversation with "I'm on Trafalgar Square..." Why do people always announce where they're calling from ? In the early days of mobile telephones it was certainly a status symbol to say "I'm calling from..." But not now.
How telecommunications have changed... the current generation would find it almost impossible to manage without a mobile. Believe it or not, for a couple of years after I married we didn't even have a phoneline at home ! We didn't bother until we moved into our second house. And I remember as a child we had a party line which we shared with the old lady across the road. She used her phone so rarely it was never really an issue but just occasionally you'd pick up the phone to call someone and hear her on the phone.
What would the current generation make of that, I wonder ?
