After our nightmare journey on Friday we finally arrived at our destination - Bisley Ranges in Surrey, where we have spent the weekend shooting. It was our annual exchange match between West Kent Rifle League (WKRL) and friends from the Koninglijke Scherpschutters Vereniging Rotterdam, (KSVR) Holland. We had a mixed programme of fullbore shooting (7.62 calibre) at various ranges from 300 to 1,100 yards and smallbore (.22 calibre) on electronic targets at 50m. Temperatures were again soaring into the nineties and we had no shade out on the range. Lying out in the full sun all day, dressed in a tight, thick double canvas jacket is no fun and makes shooting hard work.
We also had more than our fair share of technical problems this weekend, which provided additional frustrations. But we enjoyed the company of our Dutch friends and the excellent hospitality of the Army Target Shooting Club where we were staying. Bisley is such a unique, magical place. This photo shows the 1,000 yard range on Stickledown... the targets are there in the distance - honest !
