Biggin Hill Royal Air Force Station operated for 75 years and closed in 1992.
It was particularly famous during WWII and it was home to some of the most famous Hurricane and Spitfire fighter squadrons during the Battle of Britain in 1940.
These gate guardians flank the Battle of Britain Memorial Chapel. They are life-sized models of a Hurricane and Spitfire - we had two original planes standing here until about 15 years ago, when they were finally taken away as they were too precious to leave out in all weathers.
We still see Hurricanes and Spitfires fly regularly here though, at the annual Biggin Hill Air Show.
