Sepals ending in a sharp point. Flowers emerging from leafy stems.

This is the largest and most difficult group of true violets.

The next step is usually the most confusing one within the violets.

You have to determine if the plant has a basal rosette or not.

This can best be done by looking at more than one plant. Always using well developped mature specimens

what exactly is a rosette?
When leaves emerge from the rhizome (underground root)with no visible stem between them to connect them with each other this is called a rosette.

When violets are young they all make a rosette therefore it is important that you do not use the youngest plants.
Flowering stems emerging directly from the rhizome.
