Sept. 17, I left Francoise and Pascal, with hugs, and drove south by way of Bergerac to Beaumont and the bastide country.
I stumbled on two interesting vineyards. North of Bergerac, Chateau Renaulte (abandoned). Just south, the 6 star Chateau Monbazillac (started in 1550, a mix of Middle Ages and Renaissance architecture with spellbindingly beautiful vineyards. I had lunch there (duck breast - what else?).
