Domme

Domme is a ‘bastide town’, meaning a fortified town, usually on a high promontory, built during the 13th & 14th centuries, when 200
bastide towns were founded with a similar pattern of a market in the central square, a church off in the corner (business, not religion, was the center of life...how little has changed!).

Domme is listed as one of several ‘most beautiful villages of France’. It changed hands several times between England and France during Hundred Years’ War.

It’s a very popular tourist destination today, with a commanding view of the Dordogne river and valley.
