Rather rare picture of NF-5B K-4018 wearing a VUD (Vliegend Uit Dienst, or Leaving Service Flyable)-badge, ready for a short sortie at Gilze-Rijen. From 1986 onwards, several obsolete NF-5's went into flyable storage at Gilze-Rijen with DMV (Depot Vliegend Materieel, or Aircraft Depot). They received a VUD-badge (aircraft shaped as an old man, with a stick) and went on a short test flight every couple of weeks. You had to be lucky to catch one of these, with me being unlucky most of the time.
NF-5B K-4018 arrived in the Netherlands in July 1971. It was active until April 1986, when it went to DMV. By 1990, it was flown over to Woensdrecht for storage, awaiting delivery to Venezuela ('91). It served only briefly as 1711, since it was seen wfu one year later.
