Living close to the airbase, I spent many hours in the landing of Gilze-Rijen, runway 28-side. After school, or during a free afternoon, I had a lot of fun with friends who shared the same idiot fun hobby. In 1986, 316 squadron was based at Gilze-Rijen, flying with 15+ year old Canadair-built N(for Netherlands)F-5A/B's. These gentle ground attackers only had limited capacities during night or bad weather, so they were more or less second-line. Tough and reliable they were as well. NF-5A K-3023 is seen landing at Gilze in November 1986. Ordinary at the time, but 25+ years later a nice momentum to look back to.
