Point Molate

The Point Molate Naval Fuel Depot covers approximately 423 acres in the Potrero Hills in the City of Richmond, California and is about 1.5 miles north of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge in the northwest portion of the City of Richmond. In 1941, Point Molate was acquired by the U.S. Navy and began its life as a Naval Fuel Depot until September of 1995 when it was officially closed. Presently, the village of Point Molate is fenced in and basically abandoned awaiting renewal and/or developement by the city of Richmond.

On Friday 8 June 2007, I had the pleasure of visiting this area along with some friends. We had ourselves a little photo field trip. As luck would have it, we even had the assistance of a security guard unlocking gates and doors for easy access. Here are my impressions of a very enjoyable trip.

My sister and I were there yesterday snapping photographs, believe me, the security guard was NOT as friendly as the one you encountered.

hi, i was wondering how you arranged this trip. my mother and i drove by the winehaven and wanted to go in, but it seemed fenced in. if you could let me know, i would really appreciate it. we would love to see this place while it lasts! thank you, jessica dalva jlldalva@yahoo.com
