Peng Chau is a small island located off the north-eastern coast of Lantau Island, Hong Kong, which has an area of 0.99 km². It is known for its small island lifestyle, accessibility to fresh seafood, and several temples located around the island (including a Tin Hau temple built in 1792). The tallest point of the island is Finger Hill, which is 95m in height and provides hiking opportunities for those who seek them.
Once just a rural island, Peng Chau became a centre of Hong Kong industry during the 70s and 80s. Then, as if waking from a restless dream, it suddenly reverted to its former incarnation. Now only abandoned workshops, an empty theatre, rustic temples and an unhurried way of life endure. Most island visits require at least one panoramic view pit-stop, and the top of Finger Hill is the best place to do just that on Peng Chau. From this vantage point you’ll also be able to see boats bobbing in the waters of Tung Wan, the impressive Tsing Ma Bridge and Hong Kong Disneyland.
