Level : 2/4 Distance : 4.5 km Time : 2 Hour(s). Starting Point : Ma On Shan Barbecue Area. Finishing Point : Tai Shui Tseng
Setting off from the Ma On Shan Barbecue Area, this country trail passes through an old miner settlement at Ma On Shan Village. Further up is the idyllic Ngong Ping Plateau. The trail joins MacLehose Trail Section 4 at this point. Just behind the trail junction Luk Chau Shan towers on the right, flaunting strange boulders on its rugged summit.
On the plateau, a campsite offers camping facilities to the public. The lookout at the cliff-side offers broad open vistas. When the sky is clear, you can see Sharp Peak, High Island Reservoir, Kau Sai Chau and the Pak Sha Wan marina spread underneath. About 100 metres in front, Pyramid Hill surges up with great aura. Farther out are the rolling ranges of Ma On Shan and Tiu Shau Ngam.
Continuing in the direction of Sai Kung, you soon begin a descent. Here you can enjoy the natural beauty of Sai Kung. The midslopes are dressed by thickets of Taiwan Acacia which is in fact a purposefully planted firebreak to prevent spreading of hillfire.
For the final leg, a flight of steps take you to Tai Shui Tseng. Many villages there were once old communities on Ngong Ping and Mau Ping.
