Cycling (Fo Tan, Taipo, Tai Mei Tuk, Yuen Long, Gold Coast)
Hong Kong has a few good cycling routes, notably from Tai Wai to Tai Mei Tuk, a 20 km ride that takes you to some very nice scenic spots of The New Territory. 20 km may not sound like a lot for accomplished cyclists, but it is probably too much for novice which I am.
On this occasion, we picked the section Fo Tan to Tai Po which is less than 9 km one way. We rented our bikes from YY Bike Company Ltd who deals with Giant bikes exclusively. The bikes were fine and you can find them at G/F, No. 62 Fo Tan Village, Fo Tan, Hong Kong or +852 3489-3223. It would have been so much more pleasant had the weather been kinder. It started raining the moment we took off and we were totally drenched after completing the to and fro journey. Better luck next time.
Tai Mei Tuk is a place close to the Plover Cove Reservoir in Tai Po District, New Territories. It is a very popular place in Hong Kong for barbecues and cycling. There are villages and harbour nearby where many restaurants can be found. Bicycles are also available fore hire in the villages.
We went to Tai Mei Tuck on another occasion but without the cycles this time as my mom needed a wheel chair to move about. No rain on this occasion, but it was foggy.
Tai Mei Tuk was originally a cape extending from the foothills of Pat Sin Leng to Plover Cove. To construct Plover Cove Reservoir, with the largest surface area among all water storage facility in Hong Kong, the bay was enclosed by a 2 km dam that ends at Pak Sha Tau in the southeast. Today, Tai Mei Tuk is a lovely oasis between Plover Cove and the reservoir.
Tai Mei Tuck is popular for family outing, cycling, fishing, jogging, BBQ, kite flying, trekking and water sports.
