There is a tradition in Cuba where your remains, or bones are recovered two years after your burial and placed in a smaller box. This allows for others to be buried with you in the same casket or tomb.

Maria and baby died together during child birth. She was laid to rest with her infant between her legs. However, when the family came back after 2 years to remove the bones, the position of the baby had changed to the one depicted in the picture.
