What drugs can cause erectile dysfunction?

In approximately 25% of cases, erectile dysfunction (ED) can be attributed to medications men are taking. Certain drugs, including antipsychotics, antidepressants, and cardiovascular medications, have been found to contribute to ED by affecting neurological or hormonal systems responsible for sexual function.

Antipsychotic medications, particularly those containing phenothiazine, and antidepressants, such as SSRIs and tricyclics, are known to suppress sexual function and lead to ED. Similarly, drugs for treating epilepsy, cardiovascular diseases, and even some urological and gastrointestinal medications can have the same effect. Men experiencing ED while taking these medications should consult a doctor, who may adjust the dosage or prescribe alternative treatments like sildenafil or tadalafil.

Other drugs that can cause ED include antifungal agents and medications used to treat urinary incontinence.
