Hi Roberta, I want to thank you for your recent favor and live up to my promise! As you know, I've been an admirer of your photos in these galleries for half a decade. You are in my favorites, so I keep a tab on your photography endeavors, even if I don't leave a lot of comments (sadly, my time for photography and pbase is very limited these days).

Thank you Roberta for being the first to welcome me to pbase - it meant a lot... I visit your galleries often and find it difficult to pick favorites as so very many images are exceptional. I love the clarity, the colors, as well as the mood and humanity of your work. Thanks again ... I will keep visiting and learning.

Yes. Prints ordered of the party! I did a 11x14 BW of Jane (the mother) holding Logan (the little boy) after blurring and burning the distractions in the background. I was very pleased how it turned out with the new Epson on mat.

I think I'm coming out of my winter funk!
Fred Parsons06-Mar-2005 07:37
Roberta - Not sure why I have missed your galleries up to this point, but you are now book marked for many return visits. When I see your work I wish I was not so one dimensional. What a great variety of images you have. As a landscape photographer I like your landscape work very much and suspect you would find mine "garish" by comparison. I was curious about your Sigma 15mm lens. Is that fixed or a zoom and if the latter does the front element turn as you focus? And isn't great to have a creative daughter like yours. She has some outstanding images. I wish mine would get her web site up so people could see her work (and I could brag about it ;-)

Also I see you have been to Sedona, so maybe some of my "garish" images may be of interest to you. Congratulations on a fine, fine collection of work. I will return often to see what is new. Fred PS Used to go to Lake George many many years ago when in college in VT, so enjoyed those pictues as well.

Roberta, Bravo! I am so glad that I chose a Great lens too! 100mm f/2.8, with my 20D, was scared at first? Do I really need an "L" series? Wanting next the 17-85 f/4-5.6 is usm, Please tell me if this is a good choice. I Value Your Opinion as I Value Your Great Pictures!

I am curious how much work you had to do to the picture after it was taken to get them to look so good. Are you adjusting the contrast and colors and what other type of modification are needed. Do you use Photoshop?

Thanks for showing us what's possible with the Canon 10D. Your pictures are great.

I'd like to congratulate you on your great photography. You definately deserve a great big round of applause! Roberta,

I stumbled onto your pbase archive while doing research on digital SLR’s (Mainly the 10D). I am simply in awe of your work with the 717 & 10D, your photos are amazing. You have inspired me to pick up the Sony 717 which I did last weekend and really enjoy the camera. I expect to buy the 10D sometime in the future as well.

I really like the frames you have put around your photographs and was wondering what you were using to create the effect? If you could let me know it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Hello Geoffrey,

I love your pictures! I am planning a trip to Spain at the end of May and I am shopping around for an internet album to post my pictures when I return. How do you like using PBase and how do you create the borders? Is there an automated process through PBase? Please respond at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Hi Roberta!

Your pictures are so beautiful! I am currently camera shopping and have narrowed my choice to the Sony F717. Your gallery helped me make that decission! I would love to own the Canon 10D, however, the Sony is more in my price range at this time. Could you please tell me if the Sony is capable of those awesome sports pictures you took in your soccer gallery?

Looking forward to more photos,
Linda

Beautiful pics here.
I especially like Windows, Personal fav & Sunflowers.
I was also impressed by the A80 gallery. Good to know you can do really good pictures with this camera. I'm planning to buy one for sports (ski, scuba, roller) when my 300D + zooms + battery grip is way too heavy.

You are now on my favourit artists list so I might as well throw away all dreams of ever graduating=) For the past half an hour I have strolled through your pictures(while listening to Sting) and I have come to the conclusion that life could be quite a lot worse. Good music and your galleries put together is something I will recommend to everyone who needs relaxation. Thank you a million for sharing your pictures. Hey Roberta, I keep on coming back to check your pics, they are so wonderful! You are the reason I bought the 100mm & the 28-135mm. The 100mm I am enthralled with, but the 28-135mm I must say a little disappointed. Perhaps I just haven't had the opportunity to take some great pics, very dark & gloomy here. The 70-200 4f is next on my list, can't wait for that one.

I finally got a pbase account, check out my site when you get chance by clicking on my name.

Thanks for the inspiration. I posted you as one of my favs!

Hi Roberta. Your images are stunning, and the colors really vibrant. Are you using one of Fred Miranda's actions on some of your shots? Your photos really pop - I've seen similar effects using the FM Velvia action. Seeing your gallery reminded me it's time to visit the FM site again & download the velvia. LOVE your cat pics! I've been admiring your wonderful gallery of images which I found in a post you made in a dpreview forum. Wonderful photos and processing!
One thing I came across in your gallery that I wanted to ask about was a post someone made about creating a collage from several soccer photos. I do a lot of soccer photography and would like to create a collage also, and I'm curious to see what that person came up with and perhaps get some ideas or tips on creating something similar. If you have any information to share or could pass my request on to this person, I would appreciate it. (send to blz@comcast.net)
Thanks, and keep up the great work.

Love the finished results your getting Roberta! Had my 10D for a week now and i'm loving it. Would love to hear any thoughts you have on workflow for this camera. I've already had a play with RAW images using CaptureOne and RAW seems a nice way to go, but would like to hear your thoughts on this! What do you use?! And can you recommend anything else in terms of sharpening, colour correcting, resizing etc?!

Well, anyways, keep up the excellent work!

Roberta

I enjoy looking at your photos. You've done a great job!

As you have used the Sony F717 and Sony 10D quite extensively, I would like to get your thoughts about these cameras ... and what do you think about the new F828 and 300D?

I shoot with a Sony F707, mostly in low light and often with underexposure, and I am not too happy about the noise level, and thinking about upgrading to either the F828 or 300D ... or even the 10D.

You can either post your reply here or email me privately. Thanks much!

Cheers,
Bobby

Hi Mike,
I tried using my 58mm Hoya R72 and the 8x neutral density filter on my Canon 100mm macro for infrared shots with poor success. The pics were very grainy. I recently read that the focusing can be tricky. I will have to read up on it and try again. The Sony 717 is so great for IR that I've been lazy and I just grab the 717. My suggestion would be to go to dpreview.com to the 10D forum. Do a search on infrared and you will find quite a few discussions. Hope you can find what you need.
Roberta
Michael Brodey04-Sep-2003 03:00
Roberta,
Love your infrared photos. I notice you have not yet used your Canon 10D in this mode. What filter do you think would be appropriate for this camera. I'm planning a special shoot next week and would like to experiment with this technique. Any advise you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Mike

Hi Roberta,

You have excellent pictures. I have a 10D myself with 28-200 f3.5 and a 20-35 f3.5. Still in the mode of exploring.
Hope you can disclose some ideas on: RAW or JPEG, what kind of filters you use, what kind of after finishing do you use...etc.
Looks that you are an expert in making rught pictures, but also knowing how to deal with "photoshop".

Thanks in advance for sharing,
Regards
Harry

I just browesed trough your galleries and I have to say I find them really amazing! You have managed to creat ordinary shot to something really special. Right now I'm thinking of your cat shots. There's nothing worse than people showing of their shots of their cats! I hate it, it's so boring. But your shots stand out from the rest. Your photos are much more photographs than family snapshots. Thanks for your great galleries! Take a look at my galleries if you want!http://www.pbase.com/matekb

Hi Roberta,

I recently bought a 10D prior to finding the 10D discussion forum. In it I have viewed all your contributions to the forum and also the pbase site. I just wanted to let you know I bought a few lenses from onecall and gave the referral to you. Hope you don't mind.

I work overseas mostly and currently I am in Houston doing the front end planning for a large construction job in Equatorial Guinea. It is a beautiful, but very primitive country without any shops of any kind. So I have to buy all the camera equipment necessary before going. I now have the 10D with a 28-135 IS, 300 F4L IS, 70-200 F2.8L IS, Canon 16-35 F2.8L, 100 F2.8 Macro, and the 550EX flash unit. All of these are Canon lenses and I should be set up for just about anything in Africa. My wife is an avid birder and we have spent 28 years overseas birding. I may get the very expensive 600mm lenses from Canon before I go over there. it is about 10 grand so I am waiting a while for that one.

I am able to read the posts on the forum but haven't had time to take part because we are working many hours a week trying to get everything done by end of September. When you work 90 hours a week there are many opportunities for picture taking, although I took some during a lunch hour with the 300 and the 28-135 and they were pretty good.

Just wanted to let you know about the referral in case you were wondering who I was.

You have a wonderful eye for everything photographic and I am very impressed.

Regards,

Rick Wickwire

Dear Roberta,

Fantastic work, I really love your use of so many colors!! I own a 717 myself and I'm still learning the capabilities of the camera. How did you put those beautiful boarders around your photos, I'd love to do the same for mine! I'd appreciate your response. :) Please view my gallery, I'd like your opinions! http://pbase.com/interceptor

Hi Elliott,
Thanks for the nice comment! For post processing I usually check levels in PhotoShop 6.0...sometimes I do auto levels, sometimes I use the eyedropper tool to choose the white point and the black point. I use USM and just play around with it to sharpen the image. I setup a few different actions in PhotoShop but many times I do the images one at a time. I add a duplicate layer, change the canvas size to add a white border, then add a drop shadow. I save the full file as a PhotoShop file, then as a full size jpeg. Then I reduce the image size for pbase. I usually do an unsharp mask again after reducing the size. Sometimes I use burning and dodging and curves adjustments...just depends on the image. Hope this helps! Stop by to visit again! BTW, I shoot fine jpeg right now. I haven't tried raw yet. Roberta <><

Roberta,

I just ordered a 10D with the 28-135 IS....your pictures are really beautiful.... what kind of post processing do you do. Is there any routine you follow for all your shots?

also,, do you capture in jpeg or RAW modes?

Infrared advise needed
I have a new Canon A70 camera. The filter I am using is a Tiffin #87 filter. It is black, and sees only IR light.
The results I am getting are very Infrared, indeed, but the focus is crap. How is it your pics are so sharp? I know the G1 does great IR...but still.....
Could it be the filter I am using is too much for the camera? I am going to get a r72 filter also.
Any ideas on how to focus? What do you do?

I really enjoy your photography.

I have been shooting with a Sony F717 and thinking of moving to a Canon 10D, love to talk with you about many things about the camera and also see how you feel with yours.

Please email me if you get a chance.

Looking forward to speaking with you.
