For 23 years the Toronto Indy has been the biggest single sporting event of the summer in Toronto. Since the first race in the streets of Exhibition Place, the event was sponsored by Molson Brewery. In 2008, Champ Car merged with the IRL and for the first time in 23 yrs a race was not run at Exhibition Place in Toronto. On May 15, 2008, Andretti Green Promotions, LLC announced it had formed a wholly-owned Canadian company, Andretti Green Toronto, ULC (AGT), and had completed the purchase of the assets of the Grand Prix Association of Toronto Corp. The terms of the purchase agreements were not disclosed.

Andretti Green Toronto is operating out of a Toronto-based office and will run its first IndyCar Series event in 2009.
