On the way to Chitzen Itza we stopped at a Ikil Cenote. Ikil is a park surrounded by exotic plants and trees that are the perfect habitat for hundreds of wild birds, such as toucans, parrots, mockingbirds, cardinals, fly catchers, turquoise mot-mot, and so on.
The main attraction in Ikil is it's Cenote: The cenote is about 90 feet deep… just to get to the surface of the water. You have to walk down a tunnel that spirals around the cenote to reach the water surface. The depth of the water is around 120 feet. The waters of the cenote crowded with small catfish it's a unique experience awaiting you during a long hot day. One can swim in this unique well, that has been a host of ceremonies during the equinox (solstice), and even unique wedding ceremonies.
