Scientific name: Phalacrocorax carbo lucidus (Linnaeus, 1758).
Distribution: A widespread species in temperate regions of the world, occurring locally in the Northwest Atlantic of North America, widely through Eurasia, and in
parts of Southeast Asia, Africa, and Australia. Cormorants generally winter near their breeding grounds.
Cormorants are fish eaters which dive from the surface for their prey. They dine on fish, small eels, and sometimes water snakes. When they are finished fishing,
cormorants go ashore to dry their wings by holding them open in the sun.
