Historic inscription

Mullerthal, Luxembourg

Historic inscription on the Einsiedelei rock near the village of Scheidgen, featuring Luxembourg's national motto "Mir wölle bleiwe wat mir sin" (We want to remain what we are) and the red lion coat of arms, created to mark 100 years of independence in 1939; because the German occupiers did not appreciate this nationalist expression, villagers quickly hid the text at the time under a camouflaged layer of cement; after the Second World War, the text was restored to its former glory as a symbol of Luxembourg resistance
