Sanjusangen-do, the temple of 31 alcoves. A large statue of the thousand-armed Kannon (goddess of mercy) is in the center of the temple, flanked by 1,001 individually hand-carved statues of Kannon, each as tall as a person. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take photos inside the temple.
