The "US" in the center of the two collar patches indicates she was assigned as a driver to high-ranking US military personnel. British citizens were recruited to fill this duty since they were familiar with the British rules of driving on the left side ot the road. With her background as an ambulance driver with the ARP during the Blitz and later a member of the Mechanised Transport Corp, she was well qualified for the role. On a side note, her elaborate hair styling was no doubt done by my mother, Virginia, who was a hair dresser at the time.
