I stayed here, at the Hotel Monte Rosa, which was built in 1855 (I believe it was the first hotel in Zermatt). When Whymper was planning his historic climb of the Matterhorn, he stayed in this hotel. It became his base of operations for the expedition, and it helped put Zermatt on the map as a tourist destination. It's a beautiful old hotel, with outstanding service, great views, and wonderful food.
