I'm reading the messages from Betty and Jackie.Too bad I left Etain for my first time in the US in 1959.If the school you went to was in Etain,I was a teacher in that school.I was still a French citizen then.Do you realize how different the schools were in France compared to here,in the states?I've read a lot of the comments from GIs and the families who were stationed at the base in Etain Rouvres.I'm happy to read that they all kept great memories of those days.Thank you for Etain.By the way my name is Mimi Bouyea, nee Millet

Boy, did I ever goof!! We didn't live in Etain, we lived in Rouves!! No wonder the Etain photos did not bring back memories of that town. The older I get the slower I get at remembering. Sorry.

Jackie, my sister, brother and I went to that same French school, for one year before they closed Etain AFB. Our dad was a S/sgt in the AF on that base, he worked on the planes. We lived at the edge of town, closets to the base. We had a house. Hawk was our last name. So many memories. I remember the school teacher only as Monsieur. At the time we three attended that school, I do not recall any other Americans. We may have missed each other by a school season. Thank you for the pictures!

My Name is Jackie Haugh, My dad was a captan in the Air Force and we were stationed in Etain France in 1955. We lived off base above a bar and shop. We went to the french school. My dad use to shoot the school masters pigeon's. At lunch the boys chopped the wood and the girls stacked it. There was a pig farm not far from the school we would go to. We would ride our bikes to the cemetery across the cobblestone bridge. Perhaps that is why I bought Thopmas Kincaid's painting Cobblestone Bridge. vetflame@msn.com
