On June 6, 1944, The Allied forces stormed onto the beaches of Normandy to commence the invasion of Nazi occupied France. Some of the veterans pictured here, as youg men or women, were part of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division combined with the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade which stormed Juno Beach (from Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer to Courseulles-sur-Mer). Others served with the RCN or RCAF in support of the land invasion. On sunset of June 6, elements of the Canadian forces were the only allied forces to have achieved their assigned objectives.
