The FD 300mm 1:4 L takes very good pictures when it is in focus and well stabilized. This lens is very well designed for manual operation and the focusing ring is quick, smooth and precise. Focusing is easy when the lens is on a tripod but one always needs to be careful since the depth of field on the XE1 is very small at all apertures. Focusing is a challenge when shootihg handheld and it needs patience. I use the Pixco adapter.

The lens provides a very good separation of the subject from the background.
