Experimental Baking

While home baking has become a favorite activity for many during
this stay at home period, I have decided to try baking of a different sort.
Instead of muffins, breads or cupcakes, an N95 mask is going through a supposedly heat cycle of sterilization.
As there is a world wide shortage of N95 masks for front line healthcare workers,
governments and laboratories are searching for effective ways to sterilize and reuse these precious resources.
Studies have suggested that exposure to heat at a certain temperature for an adequate period of time
or to vaporized hydrogen peroxide may do the trick.
The mask survived my little heating experiment but unfortunately I have
no way to test whether it has actually retained its filtration effectiveness.
DISCLAIMER: PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME! :0)

I've read that 20 minutes in direct sunlight will kill coronavirus, but who really knows?

In any case you have a creative mind, most important during the covid-19 period.

Very interesting, both image and text...

A good idea, but does this mean you now can't use it since you're unsure if it worked? I'm sure it's better for a health care provider, but for me it would be better than nothing!

I have only one N95 mask with what I assume is a filter on the front. I also want to clean it but am afraid of ruining it. If you find any reliable info please pass it on.

I hope you find the right balance of heat and time. One thing this pandemic has taught us is that we need to rebuild our domestic PPE industry for our healthcare system.

We heard about it but never tried. V.
