The creation of St. Louis
The city of St. Louis is a European creation, built from scratch, organized originally from a ship anchored off the coast. In 1633, the Cape Verde Company establishes a first counter for the slave on an island at the mouth of the river Senegal . Ten years later, the counter is transferred by Louis Caullier in a less flood-prone area, the island of Ndar , who took the name of St. Louis in the tribute to the King of France .
