Sunday morning, I went down to get the newspaper at the end of the driveway. When I got there, I looked up to see a gangly fawn, little more than two feet high (mostly legs), looking at me from the other side of the road about 12-14 feet away. It decided to wobble into the tall grass. I went over and saw the grass moving -- the fawn was settling down in the tall grass to hide (clumsily). Just then, I saw the doe (its mother), walk silently by along the edge of the corn field, maybe 20 feet further away. I went back to the house to get my camera, thinking I should be able to get a picture of the fawn, because they stay still once hidden. I got back and found the fawn crawling through the tall grass toward the road again. Eventually, it burst out of the grass and cantered up the road. I then followed its progress as it went up the neighbor's driveway, circled around the back of our house, then went down the path on the south side. When I followed onto the path, I saw the doe lying in the grass about 30 feet away, and then the fawn closer. First time I've seen a fawn in 20 years of living here.
