Phone booth
The phone booth proves that we really were in Portugal. Someone else took a photo of members
of our group in front of the phone book.
We crossed the bridge between Spain and Portugal in a tour bus. Due to an agreement between
several European countries, there were no gates or border checkpoints. We did not even need to
bring our passports on the excursion. However, while in Spain I carried a photocopy of my
passport at all times.
Once in Portugal we were given free time. We only spent about 45 minutes in the country. The
city we arrived in had many shops. I think that Spaniards would travel there to buy lines at low
cost. The stores accepted Spanish pesetas in addition to Portuguese money and the prices were
listed in both currencies. At the first shop were we bought postcards we were able to
communicate with the owner in Spanish. Later, when a member of our group tried to find a
bathroom she encountered a bar worker who only spoke Portuguese.
