 An Olympic Peninsula Overview |
 The immediate neighborhood |
But first, the ferry to Bainbridge Island |
Might as well take a few pictures while we wait. |
The sky looked mighty interesting. |
And I had a polarizing filter on my lens. |

At last, Bainbridge Island is in view. |
Looking back at Seattle from the harbor on Bainbridge Island |
The Hood Canal, stopped again. |
At least it's cool and pretty here. And everyone is pretty mellow about things. |
Some homes along the bank of the Hood Canal |
Moving again. This is the view in the other direction. |
Kala Point at Port Townsend. Home at last. |
The bridge to Marrowstone Island, from Kala Point. |
 I eased into things. |
 The Kala Point clubhouse. |
What's this? It looks like a navy ship. |
We hit the streets of Port Townsend the next day. |
 It's a Victorian era town. |
 _DSC8631.jpg |
 I don't know what this is. |
This is sort of an overview, from a pier. |
This is the Ajax cafe, at nearby Port Hadlock. Did I mention the vintage car show? |
These are our friends who came up from Bainbridge Island for dinner. The hat thing is a long story. |
We went off to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. |
These little guys were all over the place. |
I think they were twins. |
This is with mommy. They really aren't afraid of people at all. |
This is the visitor center at the top of Hurricane Ridge |
And a snow capped mountain. |
Can't get away from them. |
 They graze. |
We yakked a bit. I think he hated my headgear. |
The folks are a little whimsical in the great northwest. |
But I really liked the sky. |
This is a paper mill outside of Port Townsend. |
Our little part of Puget Sound. That's Whidby Island just to the right of us. |
The ferry to Whidby Island. |
There's just nothing more relaxing than ferry travel across the sound. |
Coupeville. First stop on Whidby Island. |
 Chow time in Coupeville. |
Coupeville is an old town, with an old wharf, on an awesome bay on Whidby Island |
This is that big bay Coupeville is on. |
with blue herons wading in the surf |

Downtown Coupeville. Also Victorian. Way more charming than this picture. |
 A charming law firm. |
The Bridge at Deception Pass, Whidby Island. |
Then Nan went out on the bridge. |
and took awesome pictures so I could see what I was missing. |

 Safe, at any rate. |
 Back at Port Townsend |
at Fort Warden State Park, where "An Officer and a Gentleman" was filmed |
 Marrowstone Island |
Mystery Bay on Marrowstone Island |
 another attempt at art |
old fortifications at Fort Flagler |
We went whale watching in this little guy. |
First, a run though Deception Pass |
Here it is from the other side |
 Thar she blows |
40 feet, as big as our boat |
 Say bye bye |
 _DSC9097.jpg |
 Everyone loves these shots |
 _DSC9121.jpg |
But they're not that hard to get |
 _DSC9158.jpg |
This takes place relatively slowly |
 _DSC9160.jpg |
The trick is being there where and when it happens |
 _DSC9171.jpg |
This little island is full of seals |
The big guys are elephant seals |
And then we headed for the Olympic Game farm |
They stock critters for Disney films |
They come right up to the car |
 No kidding |
He probably has an agent |

This is the Dungeness Crab spit, a five mile sand bar with a lighthouse at the end |
Don't get the idea that Dungeness is a big city. |
on the way to lunch in Everrett |
at Alligator Soul, southern cooking, Everrett, Washington. |
 Great Southern cooking! |
courtesy of Chef Ryan, a budding superstar |
and his great southern hospitality |
This is the lighthouse at Mukilteo |
with a snow capped mountain in the distance. |
Where you catch the ferry back to Whidby, then another to Port Townsend. |
