Santa Catalina Island

The Getty Museum, Los Angeles, California

Some of us with some miles on our bones may remember a 1958 hit song by The Four Preps, Santa Catalina (26 miles). This photo brings that tropical isle into view through the Southern California winter haze. From this vantage point, Avalon Harbor is about 50 miles away across the San Pedro Channel Basin. Directly below on the coast is the City of Santa Monica with sailboats enjoying this warm, winter afternoon. Bougainvillea trained up through a rebar trellis are beginning to show their beautiful flowers that will explode in the summer. A stand of eucalyptus trees frame the shot on the right. Just one of the many breathtaking views to be had at The Getty.
