This was the first lighthouse we visited after arriving in Michigan. It is located at the mouth of the White River and Lake Michigan near Whitehall & Montegue, two really nice Michigan lake shore towns. The road to Sand Point, where the lighthouse/museum is located is very narrow and we could not drive the motor home there so we had to park it some distance away. The lighthouse keeper/museum curator was nice and allowed us to bring Muggs in with us. However beacuse of the extensive displays of maritime exhibits, he had to be carried for fear of disaster due to his curiosity. The light was established in 1875
