We traversed the rim trail, which runs, generally east and west, along the south rim of the canyon. This was one of the first views we saw on arrival. The clouds were casting shadows and there was always a mist in the air due to the temperature differential from the floor below to the rim (while we were there this was about 10 degrees) I have altered the photos somewhat to lessen the effects of the mist. The depth and width of the canyon were much more pronounced than we had thought. We had seen it from the air on several occasions but never up close we always had the feeling we were being drawn in.
