We were having lunch at the restaurant at Mamoth Hot Springs when someone directed our attention to the male elk across the parking lot outside one the rhe buidlings. He was just hanging out and according to one of the employees there he was pretty much there daily at this time. A few weeks later, we were in Utah and learned that someone tried to take a photo of an elk in this area and flashed his camera flash at the elk. The elk was angered and gored the visitor. The park service rangers had to cut the elk's horns (they call it a rack) off. I do not know if this is the elk but we found that the same elk keep coming to the campgrounds where they can find goodies left by the public.
