Overnight rain followed by more rain on the morning of 9th February caused quite a lot of flooding in Jakarta. I was at work when I received news of rising flood waters and I made a dash to get home before our part of Jakarta became inaccessible.

It was a 45km car journey which took 6½ hours. The last part of the journey was on roads flooded with up to 70cm of water. The car was a 5 door hatchback and we were lucky to make it without stalling.

We were very lucky to get through the floods unscathed. Many people were less fortunate. Our house is safely above the flood water but there are huge number of flooded houses, shops, factories with many people displaced from their homes.
