We have a 25' Robe which is our second as we had one at our last residence. They are without a doubt the most beautiful and fragrant tree I know of. The only down side seems to be a weakness where the limbs meet the trunk. Both our former and current tree lost major limbs but appeared to be unaffected and rebound well.

The 25 foot tree I had in Redwood City, Ca. was a prolific bloomer. The purple flowers would have people ringing my door bell 2 or 3 a year asking about it. Yes it is a fast grower and once it took it was gone. The only drawback is you need gloves when you prune and gather the trimmings with your hands. I hated to move on. When first planted it was about 6 feet in 20 years it was 25 feet and just lovely. It does look a little spooky in the winter, the branches go in every direction.

I have just planted a Purple Robe Locust tree this year it was just like a stick when I planted it but is spreading out and geting tall.
But it's trunk is really small and I want to know how to prune it. Thank you
Also I live in Zone 7

I have a 20' tree, the wood is soft and whole branches have broke off. This tree does not seed but will send out spiny runners that will show up several feet away from the
main root system. Even with these flaws I love the fragrance and wonderful form.

Hi I have a beautiful 15-18 ft tall Purple Robe for about 5 years, but I am finding Robinia seedlings throughout the garden. Not many, maybe 1 per year and am wondering if these trees will be the Purple robe or will they be the white flowered origanal species. Any help to this question would be great. I am in a zone 5b - 6, in Ontario Canada.
