1908 Protos.Hard to believe this is a replica,but yes it is a replica race car..It has a Nissan truck power train,4 cylinders & water cooled.
Two daily papers,the New York Times and Le Matin in Paris covered the great race of 1908.Six cars from four nations entered the race - Germany,Italy,France and the U.S.The race began in NYC Feb.12,1908.The Protos from Germany was the first to arrive in Paris,169 days and 21,278 km. later.The American Thomas Flyer finished 2nd 4 days later,but eventually won the title after penalties against the German team.
This and the Protos next to it were built for the movie The Greatest Auto Race on Earth,which was shot in Alberta in 2009.Stan Reynolds of Wetaskiwin supplied the brasswork.The Protos was constructed from the original drawings and schematicsobtained from Siemens Archives in Munich,Germany.The Protos was capable of reaching speeds of 80 kph.
